A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN – IT’S FREDDY’S FIFTH!

As Alice Johnson’s (Lisa Wilcox) boyfriend (Danny Hassel) is killed by Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), she learns that she’s pregnant.

This fifth film in the series has Freddy planning to use Alice’s unborn child as a key to continue his reign of terror. Much more gothic vibes here than in earlier films, and still a certain degree of ambition when it comes to special effects; the ending is surreal and there’s a scene where Freddy kills a teen comic-book style.

The cast lacks charisma though, and the formula is all too familiar.

1989-U.S. 90 min. Color. Directed by Stephen Hopkins. Cast: Lisa Wilcox (Alice Johnson), Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), Kelly Jo Minter (Yvonne Miller), Erika Anderson, Danny Hassel, Beatrice Boepple.

Trivia: Alex Proyas was reportedly offered to direct. Followed by Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991).
