Two filmmakers (Vicky Krieps, Tim Roth), who are also a couple, arrive on the island where Ingmar Bergman spent a great part of his life; they are soon emotionally and creatively challenged.
Much like most people who spend a few summer days on Fårö, writer-director Mia Hansen-Løve felt enchanted and decided this was the place for a tale about a man and a woman who feel Bergman’s legacy and presence all over the island, for better and worse.
Reality and fiction blend as another story enters the picture; uneven drama, but locations and cast compensate.
