An armored-truck robbery that ends in several deaths attracts the attention of Los Angeles cop Nick O’Brien (Gerard Butler) who has unconventional ways of hunting down violent criminals.
After making a string of popular but cheap action thrillers, Butler turned to a project that seems to reflect someone’s deep admiration for Michael Mann, and Heat (1995) in particular.
The writer-director tries to inject some depth into his story and characters, and ends the whole thing with a twist, but neither the script nor the visual style live up to expectations. Intense shootouts, though.
2018-U.S. 140 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Christian Gudegast. Cast: Gerard Butler (Nick O’Brien), Pablo Schreiber (Ray Merrimen), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Donnie Wilson), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Evan Jones, Meadow Williams.
Trivia: Followed by Den of Thieves: Pantera (2025).
