THEY WERE WARNED… THEY ARE DOOMED… AND ON FRIDAY THE 13TH, NOTHING WILL SAVE THEM.
As teenagers arrive at a summer camp on Crystal Lake, someone there decides that they all deserve to die…
Inspired by Halloween (1978), this film has become the crowning achievement of the cheap slasher flick genre that dominated the ’80s; there’s a killer in disguise chopping horny teenagers to pieces, but it comes with a twist.
Assembled with little care, the film does nonetheless have a stylish murder involving Kevin Bacon, and the final scene is a shockingly effective homage to Carrie.
1980-U.S. 95 min. Color. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham. Screenplay: Victor Miller. Music: Harry Manfredini. Makeup: Tom Savini. Cast: Betsy Palmer (Pamela Vorhees), Adrienne King (Alice), Harry Crosby (Bill), Laurie Bartram, Mark Nelson, Jeannine Taylor, Kevin Bacon.
Trivia: Shelley Winters was offered the role of Mrs. Vorhees, but declined. Followed by nine sequels, starting with Friday the 13th, Part 2 (1981), and a TV series (1987-1990), sharing little resemblance with the movies. In Freddy Vs. Jason (2003), Jason clashed with Freddy Krueger, the killer from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Remade as Friday the 13th (2009).
