Internes Can’t Take Money

THE DARING STORY OF MINUTE-MEN IN WHITE!

In a New York hospital, dr. Kildare (Joel McCrea) treats a woman (Barbara Stanwyck) who’s on a mission: finding her three-year-old daughter, who was taken by her husband.

Dr. Kildare saw the light of day in a magazine story and this was the character’s first screen appearance. Compelling enough as both McCrea and Stanwyck become involved with gangsters, the former reluctantly building a bond with an influential mob boss.

Interspersed by various medical crises that Kildare needs to solve; contrived but effective, with a standout performance by Stanwyck.

1937-U.S. 78 min. B/W. Directed by Alfred Santell. Story: Max Brand. Cast: Barbara Stanwyck (Janet Haley), Joel McCrea (Jimmie Kildare), Lloyd Nolan (Hanlon), Stanley Ridges, Lee Bowman, Barry Macollum.

Trivia: Dr. Kildare returned in Young Dr. Kildare (1938), which got eight sequels, and in two TV series, Dr. Kildare (1961-1966) and Young Dr. Kildare (1972-1973).
