In her directing debut, Martina Haag fused two of her novels into one script, using her autobiographical lead character Petra’s teenage years in the 1980s as a tool to deepen our understanding of what Petra goes through at the age of 50, when she slowly realizes that her husband is having an affair.
A good idea, but the result is still an unremarkable film whose divorce story offers few surprises. Ella Hammarsten Liedberg is the cast’s standout as young Petra, finding her feet.
