It’s clear what the creators behind Will & Grace were aiming for with this sitcom: a new version of The Golden Girls, starring a group of gay men of a certain age who realize that sharing an apartment might be exactly what they’re all looking for at this point in life.
There was a lot that looked right about the show from the start, not least James Burrows directing a very promising cast, including the ever reliable Nathan Lane and Linda Lavin as his acerbic mother. They were all fun to watch, aided by reasonably amusing dialogue, storylines and guest stars.
Shockingly, Lavin died after seven produced episodes, but scripts were rewritten; cast and crew regrouped and paid her a dignified farewell in the last episodes.
2025-U.S. 10 episodes. Color. Created by Max Mutchnick, David Kohan. Cast: Nathan Lane (Bunny Schneiderman), Matt Bomer (Jerry Frank), Nathan Lee Graham (Arthur Broussard), Linda Lavin.
