After the end of World War II, American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek) is hired to evaluate the captured Hermann Göring’s (Russell Crowe) mental health before he stands trial in Nuremberg.
A labor of love for James Vanderbilt, who’s crafted a good-looking and engaging, old-fashioned Hollywood wartime drama boasting a fine performance by Crowe as Göring; even his German sounds OK.
However, the film’s dramatic beats are a little too obvious and it’s impossible to root for such a poorly written, annoying lead character as Kelley.
