THE MOST DANGEROUS ENEMY IS AN OLD FRIEND.
The seed of this project was sown back in the 1970s, but it wasn’t worth the wait.
In spite of all this talent, the story of how mob bosses Frank Costello and Vito Genovese became rivals, leading up to the fateful 1957 Apalachin meeting, is slow and talky, further damaged by a strange, ineffective casting decision: having Robert De Niro play both men. His best performance is as the timid but cunning Costello, but the two men simply look too much alike, causing confusion.
