The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

SPEED NEEDS NO TRANSLATION.

Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), a 17-year-old juvenile delinquent, is left with a choice: either do time in prison or go to Japan and live with his strict father.

That’s the setup for the third chapter of this series; the characters are new but otherwise it’s basically more of the same, as Sean learns that racing cars is a hot pastime in Tokyo’s underworld.

Sonny Chiba may appear as a mob boss and the car chases are as entertaining as ever, but it doesn’t matter. The rest is hopelessly uninvolving.

2006-U.S. 104 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Justin Lin. Cast: Lucas Black (Sean Boswell), Bow Wow (Twinkie), Nathalie Kelley (Neela), Zachery Ty Bryan, Brandon Brendel, Daniel Booko, JJ Sonny Chiba. Cameo: Vin Diesel.

Trivia: Diesel received no pay for his cameo in exchange for the rights to Riddick, the character he had played in two previous films. Followed by Fast & Furious (2009).
