The Girl in the Spider’s Web

THE PAST NEVER FORGETS.

Lisbeth Salander (Claire Foy) is hired to get her hands on a computer program built to access the world’s nuclear codes.

Seven years after The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo came this sequel, based on a novel that wasn’t part of the original ”Millennium” trilogy. Intensely focused on Salander’s past and present, the film introduces her twin sister and forces her to face the consequences of a decision she made when she was a child.

Visually, Fede Álvarez follows in David Fincher’s footsteps; a few exciting action scenes, but this is largely a very weak entry.

2018-U.S.-Germany-Sweden. 117 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Fede Álvarez. Screenplay: Jay Basu, Fede Álvarez, Steven Knight. Novel: David Lagercrantz. Cast: Claire Foy (Lisbeth Salander), Sverrir Gudnason (Mikael Blomkvist), Lakeith Stanfield (Edwin Needham), Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Vicky Krieps, Claes Bang, Mikael Persbrandt.

Trivia: Natalie Portman, Alicia Vikander and Scarlett Johansson were reportedly considered for the lead role.
