The Matrix Resurrections

RETURN TO THE SOURCE.

60 years after the events in The Matrix Revolutions (2003), Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) is working as a video game designer, but he’s about to be shaken out of his reality…

The fourth film, made two decades after the third one, adopted a sometimes disarmingly nostalgic and self-aware attitude, with countless references to the original Matrix. Lana Wachowski still knows how to pack a punch when it comes to the action; Jonathan Groff and Neil Patrick Harris are welcome additions as stylish but wicked AI programs.

But the convoluted story is a chore to follow.

2021-U.S. 148 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Lana Wachowski. Screenplay: Lana Wachowski, David Mitchell, Aleksandar Hemon. Cast: Keanu Reeves (Thomas Anderson/Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Tiffany/Trinity), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Morpheus), Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jones, Jada Pinkett Smith, Christina Ricci.

Trivia: Co-produced by Wachowski. John Wick director Chad Stahelski was Reeves’s stunt double on the first three films; here he plays Moss’s husband.
