The Monkey

EVERYBODY DIES. AND THAT’S FUCKED UP.

A pair of twins, who are very different, realize that a toy monkey in their family’s possession has the power to trigger freak accidents that kill people.

This screen adaptation of Stephen King’s short story has been expanded and greatly changed. Osgood Perkins shows a desire to talk about the inevitability of death, but it’s not a film to be taken seriously; instead, it’s a horror-comedy with absurd Final Destination-type kills.

Unfortunately, neither effects, laughs or thrills are good enough.

2025-U.S. 98 min. Color. Written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Short Story: Stephen King. Cast: Theo James (Hal Shelburn/Bill Shelburn), Tatiana Maslany (Lois Shelburn), Colin O’Brien (Petey Shelburn), Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, Elijah Wood, Osgood Perkins.

Trivia: Co-produced by James Wan. Frank Darabont originally considered turning the story into a movie.
