Thunderbolts*

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU ASSEMBLE.

Along with a group of other less than stellar superheroes, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) walks into a trap… that turns into an opportunity for them all to band together.

A Marvel adventure that serves as a sequel to Black Widow (2021) and an important step on the road to the next Avengers adventure. More down-to-earth than the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and, arguably, it has a more interesting gang of boisterous heroes.

The story addresses the devastating effects of depression; a surprising, risky choice, but the film doesn’t turn into a drag, softening the impact with laughs and lots of action.

2025-U.S. 126 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jake Schreier. Screenplay: Eric Pearson, Joanna Calo. Music: Son Lux. Cast: Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Trivia: Ayo Edebiri and Steven Yeun were originally hired for roles. The post-credits scene was directed by the Russo brothers on the set of Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

Last word: “While [the superheroes] all have their individual traumas and their different perspectives on how they feel, if they open themselves up to that connection, they [begin] see that there are others who can understand them, even if they haven’t gone through another’s specific experience. Look, we want to have a lot of fun in this movie. There’s a ton of action. We’re in IMAX, we’re blowing things up, cranes are falling, limos are exploding — but you never want that stuff to get ahead of where the characters are along the story. You want to feel like that action is coming from a story perspective and it’s all working together to build a narrative.” (Schreier, Daps Magic)
