Trail of the Pink Panther

THERE IS ONLY ONE INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU. HIS ADVENTURE CONTINUES…

On a trip to Lugash where the Pink Panther diamond once again has been stolen, Clouseau’s (Peter Sellers) plane disappears into the ocean.

The seventh Pink Panther flick was made after Sellers’s death and begins with several previously shot, never-before seen Clouseau clips. After his disappearance, a reporter (Joanna Lumley) interviews the old supporting characters and highlights from previous entries in the series are shown.

Incongruous, perhaps even tasteless, the film has a second half that drags… but also undeniably funny moments.

1982-U.S.-U.K. 97 min. Color. Widescreen. Directing, Story: Blake Edwards. Cast: Peter Sellers (Jacques Clouseau), David Niven (Sir Charles Litton), Herbert Lom (Charles Dreyfus), Joanna Lumley (Marie Jouvet), Richard Mulligan, Robert Wagner, Burt Kwouk, Capucine, Colin Blakely, Robert Loggia, Harvey Korman. Cameo: Julie Andrews.

Trivia: Before making this film, the studio tried to cast Dudley Moore as Clouseau in a film previously written by Sellers called Romance of the Pink Panther, but Moore refused. As Niven’s voice was weak due to his ALS, lines were dubbed by celebrity impressionist Rich Little. Followed by Curse of the Pink Panther (1983).
