In their first film together, the directors examine mankind’s relationship with animals. How are we treating them?
The filmmakers take us to different places and situations, introducing us to animal keepers at a zoo, an elderly couple who’s trained their dog to perform little tricks, a man who has a pet cockroach, etc. Some scenes are staged like tableaux, others invite us into the animal’s perspective. The absurd is often present, especially during various competitions where people participate with sheep, dogs and bulls.
Thought-provoking on a minor level, but we understand the point early on (we’re all animals), and Isabella Rossellini’s narration doesn’t add much.
