One year after the events in the first part of Wicked, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), now known as a Wicked Witch, is trying to make the people of Oz rise up against the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), with Galinda (Ariana Grande) caught in the middle.
Dividing the Broadway musical into two parts for the movies was always going to be a challenge and there isn’t much here that matches the emotional energy of the first film. Overall, the songs are weaker and the story drags at times.
Still, part two has the same technical advantages, heartfelt efforts by Erivo and Grande, and cleverly ties into The Wizard of Oz (1939).
