Zootopia 2

THEY’RE BACK WITH A TWISSST.

Judy and Nick are now partners at the Zootopia Police Department and find themselves working a case that leads to a snake and a powerful family.

It took a decade for this sequel to materialize, but getting back into this world is easy and a lot of fun. The story is weak, but who cares? There’s wild chases, good jokes, surprises, an insane voice cast and frequent nods to other movies and cultural happenings.

Bursting with joy and creativity, the film moves fast but still finds time to work through the conflict between Hopps & Wilde and make us care about their progress, in spite of the formula.

2025-U.S. Animated. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard. Screenplay: Jared Bush. Voices of Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy Hopps), Jason Bateman (Nick Wilde), Ke Huy Quan (Gary De’Snake), Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Idris Elba, Shakira, Danny Trejo, Bonnie Hunt, Jean Reno, Macaulay Culkin, John Leguizamo, Tommy Chong… Bob Iger, Amanda Gorman, Ed Sheeran, June Squibb, Mario Lopez, Michael J. Fox, Josh Gad, Dwayne Johnson.

BAFTA: Best Animated Film.

Last word: “Sometimes it’s the smallest things that are the hardest. We have this scene where Nick and Judy finally come back together towards the end of the movie. That subtle acting is really hard; it takes people at the very top of their craft to be able to put that tiny bit of subtext, just moving a corner of an eye a pixel. Those choices are so detail-oriented. Almost more than anything, those things are incredibly hard.” (Bush, Indiewire)
