In 1950s Norway, Crown Prince Harald (Sindre Strand Offerdal) falls in love with a young commoner (Gina Bernhoft Gørvell), but King Olav V (Anders Baasmo) makes it clear that a marriage is out of the question.

King Harald and Queen Sonja would ultimately become much loved, but this miniseries illustrates the difficulties of their initial romance; it took nine years until the time was right (in that year of civil unrest, 1968) for the King and the nation’s leading politicians to accept their love.

Not as compelling or dramatic as The Crown, but handsomely produced and Bernhoft Gørvell is fine as Sonja.
