After the murder of an agent who was on his way to the United States, Sherlock Holmes and dr. Watson (Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce) go to Washington D.C. to find the killer and the document the agent was carrying.

The fifth film in the series changes locations in a fresh and amusing way, providing us with lighter moments where Watson tries American chewing gum. The two men in awe of the American democracy, the film does its part to strengthen the relationship between two allies in the war.

Still, it’s one of the series’ weakest spy stories.
