Tenzing

THE ASCENT THAT MADE HISTORY.

In 1953, an international expedition prepares to do what many before them failed at – climbing Mount Everest; for one of the Sherpas, it’s been a lifelong dream and struggle.

A film that puts Tenzing Norgay front and center, giving us clues to his life in flashbacks that punctuate the portrayal of his and Hillary’s historic achievement. Convincingly crafted by Jennifer Peedom who made her dramatic debut, but had directed several documentaries about mountain-climbing and Everest.

A tad unremarkable narratively, but telling the story from Tenzing’s (well played by Genden Phuntsok) perspective is worth it.

2026-Australia-U.K.-U.S.-India-Nepal. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jennifer Peedom. Screenplay: Luke Davies. Book: Ed Douglas (”Tenzing: Hero of Everest”). Music: Rebekka Karijord. Trivia: Co-executive produced by the real-life Tenzing’s grandson, Norbu Tenzing.
