As Superman (David Corenswet) is defeated by a metahuman, he must figure out a way to win back people’s trust and destroy the influence of Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), the evil billionaire behind an international crisis.

Another reboot, this time not only of Superman but also the entire cinematic DC project. James Gunn brings all his talents and quirks from Marvel, including impressive visual effects, deliriously silly characters and ideas and an attitude that combines heart with comedy.

It’s a thrillride that pulls off both Krypto the superdog and references to real-life threats and crises, such as Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Last word: “It’s easier for me to write edgier characters, and that’s what I had to find out about Superman: He does have edge, it’s just different than I perceive it. And then the other thing is that with these comic-book heroes, everybody has an idea about what Batman and Superman are supposed to be, but I can take a character like Groot and make him exactly what I want him to be. There’s maybe five people that are complaining that he’s changed from the comic books. With Superman, you can’t do that. There are certain things that seem like a part of Superman that you just can’t get rid of and then a few other things that people either hate or love, like the trunks.” (Gunn, The New York Times)
