Le Beau Mariage

When art student Sabine (Béatrice Romand) tires of sleeping around with married men, she decides to marry a lawyer (André Dussolier), whether he likes it or not.

The second film in the director’s ”Comedies & Proverbs” series had many critics thinking of Claire’s Knee (1970), as Éric Rohmer reunited with Romand who came across as that film’s teenager all grown up.

She’s good as a young woman trapped in her idea of what marriage ought to be like… but there isn’t much here that’s interesting or provocative.

1982-France. 97 min. Color. Written and directed by Éric Rohmer. Cast: Béatrice Romand (Sabine), André Dussolier (Edmond), Féodor Atkine (Simon), Arielle Dombasle, Huguette Faget, Thamila Mezbah, Sophie Renoir.

Trivia: Alternative title: A Good Marriage. For a list of the other films in this series, see The Aviator’s Wife.
