A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

ARE YOU READY FOR FREDDIE?

After leaving the psychiatric hospital where they battled Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), Kristen Parker (Tuesday Knight) and her friends are back in school, but Freddy is resurrected.

More or less a new cast, but the film continues the story that began in chapter 3, and there are decent attempts to bring back the same kind of thrills. Expect waterbeds, quicksand, a wisecracking Krueger and lots of smoke and shattered glass. Englund, appearing in one sequence as a nurse in drag, is far more enjoyable than his victims.

Still, a weaker story and too repetitive.

1988-U.S. 93 min. Color. Directed by Renny Harlin. Screenplay: Brian Helgeland, Scott Pierce. Song: ”Nightmare” (performed by Tuesday Knight). Cast: Lisa Wilcox (Alice Johnson), Danny Hassel (Dan Jordan), Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), Tuesday Knight (Kristen Parker), Brooke Theiss, Ken Sagoes.

Trivia: Followed by A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989).

Quote: “How’s this for a wet dream?” (Englund appearing in a waterbed)
