The Mummy Returns

ADVENTURE IS REBORN.

Adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), his wife Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) and their son run into the mummy again, but all of them must also do battle with the mighty Scorpion King.

There isn’t much of a story here; the characters end up in pointless fights all the time and everything is so hysterical that watching the movie could cause epileptic seizures. The Scorpion King is an example of when the CGI doesn’t work, but the zombie pygmies do score some points.

Only worth a look because it’s Dwayne Johnson’s acting debut.

2001-U.S. 129 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Stephen Sommers. Cast: Brendan Fraser (Rick O’Connell), Rachel Weisz (Evelyn O’Connell), John Hannah (Jonathan Carnahan), Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep), Oded Fehr, Patricia Velasquez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Trivia: Followed by The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008); there was also a spin-off movie, The Scorpion King (2002).
