The Mummy

WELCOME TO A NEW WORLD OF GODS AND MONSTERS.

When a mysterious tomb is found in Iraq, the military brings it to London… and it is soon revealed to contain the mummy of an Egyptian princess who made an alliance with an evil god and was buried alive.

Universal’s 3D reboot of the old mummy movies was meant to be the start of a franchise called ”Dark Universe”, but suffered from poor reviews and underwhelming box office returns. The film veers uncomfortably from Indiana Jones-type adventure to horror to Mission: Impossible-type action.

Starts promisingly, but turns into the most generic of blockbusters.

2017-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Alex Kurtzman. Screenplay: David Koepp, Christopher McQuarrie, Dylan Kussman. Cast: Tom Cruise (Nick Morton), Russell Crowe (Henry Jekyll), Annabelle Wallis (Jenny Halsey), Sofia Boutella (Ahmanet), Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance.

Trivia: At earlier points, Len Wiseman and Andy Muschietti were considered for directing duties; Tom Hardy and Javier Bardem as Henry Jekyll.
