Peter Hujar’s Day

In 2021, Linda Rosenkrantz published the transcript of a day-long conversation that she had in 1974 with gay photographer Peter Hujar.

As they were talking, his artistic insecurities, working conditions and focus on details were on full display; much of it became a snapshot of life as an artist in New York City in that particular era.

Ben Whishaw is perfect in the lead and the film really takes us to the time and place… but the endless talk turns into a challenge because of its often trivial nature.

2025-U.S. 76 min. Color. Written and directed by Ira Sachs. Book: Linda Rosenkrantz. Cast: Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar), Rebecca Hall (Linda Rosenkrantz).

Trivia: Co-executive produced by the two leads.
