After an explosive near-death experience on a bridge, a German Tiger tank crew get a new mission as they move deeper into the Soviet Union during World War II: rescue a missing officer.
A grim war movie that is sort of the tank equivalent of Das Boot (1981), as the crew navigate a landscape of hidden enemies; in one scene they literally go underwater for cover.
The film is a symbolic journey through hell for Nazi Germany’s troops; well-made, scattered moments of tension, leading up to a weak finale/twist.
