In This Our Life

SISTER AGAINST SISTER! LOVE MADE THEM HATE EACH OTHER!

The members of the Timberlake family are shaken to their core on the day when Stanley (Bette Davis) decides to elope with her sister’s (Olivia de Havilland) husband (Dennis Morgan).

John Huston’s second film was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Davis did not feel the movie lived up to the book, but it did give her a chance to play a classic villain, as the daughter and sister whose actions end up ruining her.

The film depicts racism and incest, subjects that were treated in a darker and more direct way in the novel, but it is nevertheless a well-acted drama that knows which buttons to push.

Cast: Bette Davis (Stanley Timberlake), Olivia de Havilland (Roy Timberlake), George Brent (Craig Fleming), Dennis Morgan, Frank Craven, Billie Burke, Charles Coburn, Hattie McDaniel.
