When an old enemy of Gru’s escapes from prison, Gru and his family are relocated with new identities to a new town.

Here’s a franchise that’s starting to feel its age. Much of it looks like a low-rent version of The Incredibles (2004), ending in a spectacular battle against Will Ferrell’s uninspired, French-accented supervillain.

There’s expected jokes where Gru and Lucy try to get used to suburbia. Young audiences might be more forgiving, but even a subplot involving Gru and a mean girl is wasted.
