FIND SOMEONE MADE JUST FOR YOU.
During a trip to see friends at a lakehouse, Iris (Sophie Thatcher) learns the terrifying truth about herself and her boyfriend, Josh (Jack Quaid).
It begins as a perfect romantic dream, but we are quickly informed by Iris that she will end up killing Josh. The film’s great mystery is revealed fairly soon, with clues leading up to it, and gives way to a chase that has its moments of comedy and thrills. Presenting a probable future scenario, with misogynistic aspects, the film takes a sharp Westworld approach to dating.
Quaid is amusing as a thoroughly mediocre man who feels he deserves a lot better.
2025-U.S. 97 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Drew Hancock. Cast: Sophie Thatcher (Iris), Jack Quaid (Josh), Lukas Gage (Patrick), Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, Rupert Friend.
Trivia: Co-produced by Zach Cregger, who considered directing the film.
Last word: “I’m very protective of my material, and so as [Cregger and I] were reading and talking through every scene, I was going, ‘How would you shoot this scene? Whose point of view is it? What lenses would you use?’ I did that over and over and over again, so either Zach got so annoyed that he was like, ‘You know what? You do it!’ or he recognized that I had a clear vision of the movie, and he would be best suited to take a step back and have more of a producing role, and mentor and shepherd me.” (Hancock, Rue Morgue)
