A Nightmare on Elm Street

NEVER SLEEP AGAIN.

After the gruesome death of a friend, Quentin and Nancy (Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara) realize that they’re both having nasty nightmares about a badly burnt man (Jackie Earle Haley) who has the ability to hurt them in real life.

In their quest to remake every horror hit made in the past three decades, the producers never did bother much with quality. This one, made by first-time feature film director Samuel Bayer, benefits from an original story that is pretty good, but adds absolutely nothing that Wes Craven didn’t do back in 1984.

OK performances, though.

2010-U.S. 95 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Samuel Bayer. Screenplay: Wesley Strick, Eric Heisserer. Cast: Jackie Earle Haley (Freddy Krueger), Kyle Gallner (Quentin O’Grady), Rooney Mara (Nancy Holbrook), Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Connie Britton.

Trivia: Co-produced by Michael Bay. Billy Bob Thornton was reportedly considered for the part of Krueger.
