The eighth film in this franchise is a direct sequel to Dead Reckoning, where Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team must find a way to stop that mysterious AI threat, ”the Entity”, or else nuclear apocalypse awaits.
The stakes are so high and the story so convoluted that the whole film becomes too preposterous at times.
At almost three hours, the film is overlong, but its nostalgia is irresistible as it finds ways to connect with the previous films, and there’s plenty of action, including two massive set-pieces, one in a sunken sub, another a fight on a biplane.
