After the events of the first film, the Lamberts move into Lorraine’s (Barbara Hershey) house for a while, but they’re closer to danger than they can imagine.

The same year as director James Wan released The Conjuring, he also made this sequel to his 2011 hit. Even though he’s having as much fun with the genre as in the original, it pales in comparison, largely due to a sense of déjà vu.

While it’s fun to watch Patrick Wilson channeling Jack Torrance in The Shining (1980), the last half-hour has more yawns than scares in spite of its frantic pace.
