Insidious: The Last Key

FEAR COMES HOME.

In 2010, Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) is contacted by a man who’s living in the house where she grew up; he says it is haunted, and Elise has no reason to disbelieve him… because her childhood memories are very dark.

The fourth chapter in the franchise is another prequel that (wisely) focuses on Elise and her hilariously uncool ghostbusting partners (Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell).

Unusually well conceived horror sequel with a decent amount of scares and surprises, even if the story takes a few ludicrous turns and ends (as always) in The Further with a disappointing showdown.

2018-U.S. 103 min. Color. Directed by Adam Robitel. Screenplay: Leigh Whannell. Cast: Lin Shaye (Elise Rainier), Angus Sampson (Tucker), Leigh Whannell (Specs), Caitlin Gerard, Josh Stewart, Spencer Locke… Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, Barbara Hershey.

Trivia: Co-produced by Whannell, James Wan and Oren Peli. Followed by Insidious: The Red Door (2023).
