Tron Legacy

THE ONLY WAY TO WIN IS TO SURVIVE.

A few years after the events of the first film, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) disappears; twenty years later, his son (Garrett Hedlund) is sucked into a virtual reality created by his father.

The belated sequel to Tron (1982) features two sets of Bridges (one of them a villainous program that has adapted Flynn’s 35-year-old looks), Michael Sheen channeling his inner David Bowie, and gorgeous visual effects and 3D design (albeit not really as groundbreaking as in the original).

A thin story and bloated running time are huge problems, but Daft Punk’s excellent music score compensates to some degree.

2010-U.S. 127 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Joseph Kosinski. Music: Daft Punk. Cast: Jeff Bridges (Kevin Flynn/Clu), Garrett Hedlund (Sam Flynn), Olivia Wilde (Quorra), Bruce Boxleitner, Michael Sheen, James Frain. Cameo: Cillian Murphy.

Trivia: Daft Punk also appear in the movie. Chris Pine and Ryan Gosling were reportedly considered for roles. Followed by Tron Ares (2025).
