BIG JIM BRANNIGAN TAKES ON LONDON – CHICAGO STYLE!
Chicago police lieutenant Jim Brannigan (John Wayne) arrives in London to get an American mobster extradited, but learns that he’s been kidnapped.
One of Wayne’s last movies is a Dirty Harry-inspired thriller that primarily benefits from the pleasure of watching Duke clash with the British culture and police, represented here by Richard Attenborough’s stricter colleague – who isn’t above joining Brannigan in an entertaining pub brawl (!).
Plenty of action keeps the movie afloat and the filmmakers take good advantage of London locations.
1975-U.S.-U.K. 111 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Douglas Hickox. Cast: John Wayne (James ”Jim” Brannigan), Richard Attenborough (Sir Charles Swann), Judy Geeson (Jennifer Thatcher), Mel Ferrer, John Vernon, Daniel Pilon, Lesley Anne Down… Tony Robinson.
Trivia: The story was originally intended for Ralph Richardson and Diana Rigg.
