Ice Age: The Meltdown

THE CHILL IS GONE.

Manny, Sid and Diego realize that the ice age is about to end and set out to save themselves from drowning.

Carlos Saldanha, who worked on the first film, stepped up to direct a sequel that is pretty good in the genre of second-rate CGI comedies. There is flow in the animation that makes the action sequences and the comedy engaging, particularly the adventures with Scrat the squirrel and his never-ending hunt for that acorn.

The story has Manny wondering about his place in the world, but the writing is overall weak. Still, entertaining and good-humored enough.

2006-U.S. Animated. 90 min. Color. Directed by Carlos Saldanha. Voices of Ray Romano (Manfred), John Leguizamo (Sid), Denis Leary (Diego), Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Will Arnett, Jay Leno, Stephen Root.

Trivia: Followed by Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009).
