Point Break

THE ONLY LAW THAT MATTERS IS GRAVITY.

Extreme sport athlete Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) joins the FBI and is sent on a mission infiltrating a group of men suspected of committing spectacular robberies.

This remake of the 1991 action movie will probably not gain the same kind of cult status, but it’s not really inferior; what it does is emphasize what’s bad about the original, without adding charm. The characters, including the FBI agent, are silly and thin; an explanation, I assume, for why he believes in the hollow excuses of these criminals.

Fun if you’re into extreme sports as the film takes us up and down mountains in breakneck pace.

2015-U.S.-Germany-China. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Ericson Core. Cast: Édgar Ramírez (Bodhi), Luke Bracey (Johnny Utah), Ray Winstone (Angelo Pappas), Teresa Palmer, Matias Varela, Delroy Lindo.

Trivia: Gerard Butler was considered for the part of Bodhi. Bojesse Christopher and James LeGros appear as senior FBI agents; in the original, they played members of Bodhi’s gang.
