The Furious

When his daughter (Yang Enyou) is kidnapped by human traffickers, Wang Wei (Xie Miao) goes after them together with a newfound ally (Joe Taslim) who also has reason to look for justice.

A premise that looks like it was lifted from your average Liam Neeson movie, but the action is anything but standard. Hong Kong cinema is alive and well in this brutal and crazy film where the story is just a little something to connect bone-crunching, elaborately choreographed fights. Not a dull moment, with a sequence near the end that echoes The Raid (2011).

Brian Le is a stand-out as an intellectually challenged hulk of a man.

2026-China-Hong Kong. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Kenji Tanigaki. Screenplay: Mak Tin-shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan-sin, Frank Hui. Cast: Xie Miao (Wang Wei), Joe Taslim (Navin), Yang Enyou (Rainy), Joey Iwanaga, Yayan Ruhian, Brian Le.

Last word: “One thing I really like about [action choreographer Kensuke Sonomura’s] action style is that it has a very good balance of chaos and order. I think everything in life needs balance, needs the yin and yang, and that’s the style of The Furious, especially the finale. It feels so chaotic, but at the same time, within the cast, I believe there was a synergy that we all trusted each other and knew each other’s timing. So, when it came down to it, it was as if there was no choreography, you’re just kind of flowing with the other person.” (Le, POC Culture)
