Golden Boys

ABOVE AVERAGE

AMBITION. BETRAYAL. POWER.

In 1997, Joachim Posener (Adam Lundgren) is released from prison and comes up with a scheme: taking over a Swedish investment company, using a British lord (Nigel Havers) as cover.

One of the most notorious cases of financial fraud in Swedish history is turned into a slick, ’90s-steeped miniseries that educates and entertains us in equal measures; it’s a party waiting for the inevitable crash. Much of it is a tragicomic portrait of young men taking short cuts in their pursuit of power and wealth; Lundgren turns Posener into a cocky but sad figure.

Havers is perfect as Lord Moyne, even if he remains a clueless enigma.

2026-Sweden. 176 min. Color. Directed by Ivica Zubak. Teleplay: Erik Hultkvist, Per Gavatin, Tapio Leopold. Book: Gunnar Lindstedt. Cast: Adam Lundgren (Joachim Posener), Erik Svedberg-Zelman (Thomas Jisander), Jonas Karlsson (Gunnar Lindstedt), Nigel Havers, Viktor Björkberg, Måns Nathanaelson, Amy Deasismont, Philip Zandén.

Trivia: Originally shown in four episodes.

Last word: “Ever since I listened to a radio documentary I’ve wanted to be part of a dramatization of the Trustor affair, which has gone through many iterations over the years. I’ve always wanted to play Thomas Jisander, the crazy guy from Gothenburg. When the rights to the book finally landed with FLX they wanted me to audition for the part of Posener. I said, ‘no, no, I’m doing Jisander’. They were like, ‘no, Posener’.” (Lundgren, Dagens Nyheter)
