Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

THIS TIME THE TERROR DOESN’T STOP AT THE SCREEN.

At a time when Heather Langenkamp is terrorized by a fan, she’s offered a new film in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

Wes Craven toyed with the idea for this film back in the 1980s, but after the death of Freddy Krueger in the last film the time was right for this meta project, two years before Craven sharpened it for Scream. It’s all in one – a fresh Nightmare, a spoof of the franchise and a tale of Hollywood.

Uneven, much like the 1984 original, but less overblown and scarier than some of the recent chapters. It’s fun to see the cast play versions of themselves.

1994-U.S. 112 min. Color. Written and directed by Wes Craven. Cast: Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, John Saxon, Miko Hughes, Tracy Middendorf, David Newsom, Wes Craven… Lin Shaye.

Trivia: Co-executive produced by Craven. Tuesday Knight, who was a lead in the fourth film, appears during the funeral scene.
