The New Yorker at 100

As the venerable institution celebrates its first century, we get a nerdy look behind the scenes, meeting the dedicated people who run the magazine and write for it, including artists who come up with the famous cartoons. We also take part in some of the detailed, painstaking processes behind the work.

This slick documentary also jumps back and forth between eras, covering the history, controversies and groundbreaking reporting of the New Yorker. The magazine’s role in our culture and its elitist reputation is reflected upon, including by celebrities who have contributed to it over the years.

Don’t expect much criticism; it is largely a love letter, but elegantly produced.

Trivia: First shown at the Telluride film festival, then released on Netflix. Co-executive produced by Judd Apatow. Molly Ringwald, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nate Bargatze, Jesse Eisenberg, Jon Hamm and Ronan Farrow appear in interviews.
